Special event - Free Art Workshop: Unconscious Biases
- Workshop (first) on 14 October 2017, 10am-12.30pm
- Workshop (second) repeated on 21 October 2017, 10am-12.30pm]
Two free art workshops are coming up in October - ‘Unconscious Biases’- with artists from Collective Exchange.
2018 marks the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918 - allowing women over the age of 30 the right to vote. Through the two workshops, Collective Exchange will reflect with you on the Suffrage Movement and changing attitudes towards gender inequality since. They will kick-start the topic by investigating language, specifically gender biased language, to begin an exploration of women’s place in society.
Workshop participants will create ‘statement badges’, using simple collage techniques, layering text and images from newspapers (past and present) and social media. You will explore how unconscious gender bias phrases are used daily, and how an individual can highlight these through the process of making.
Space is limited; booking is essential. The workshops are free, aimed for adults and open to all (women and men).
Please book by emailing Collective Exchange: firstname.lastname@example.org
