Tanesha Melbourne-Blake: joint message from Haringey Council and Haringey Police
We share the shock and sadness being felt across Haringey following the senseless killing of 17-year-old Tanesha Melbourne-Blake. Our thoughts remain with Tanesha’s friends and family, and the many who knew her from Bruce Grove Youth Space, as they try to come to terms with their devastating loss.
In the days since Tanesha’s death, we have started to come together with local young people, community leaders and partners to discuss the role we each have to play in ensuring that Haringey is a place where everyone can thrive and be safe from harm – and where the needs and concerns of our young residents are heard, and acted upon. These conversations continue. We want to listen.
Bringing those responsible for Tanesha’s death to justice remains an absolute priority and the police investigation is ongoing. We appreciate the community’s and partners’ understanding of the need for additional police presence in Haringey at this time and hope this will provide some community reassurance.
It is essential that we each commit to doing everything possible to ensure every young person in Haringey can access the best opportunities and the best possible start in life.
It is important to recognise that Haringey is already a place where many young people and residents are able to thrive and flourish. But we are committed to working even more closely with each of you in the coming weeks, months and years to tackle more effectively the issues that affect the safety of our young people.
