Diabetes prevention programme

About the programme, who needs it, getting a referral, and locations.

The Healthier You, NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme has been created to support anyone aged 18 and over who might have an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Risk Factors

High-risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes include:

  • your ethnicity
  • your family history
  • your weight

The programme aims to support you take the necessary steps to reduce the risk factors you can control, such as getting more physical activity and healthy eating.

Take steps to reduce your risk

If you would like to be referred to the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, please discuss this with your GP.

If there isn't a programme running in your area at the time of your referral, you can either:

  • join the area waiting list
  • attend programmes in the neighbouring boroughs of Camden and Islington
