‘Abuse: let’s tackle it’ - Euro 2024 campaign

The men’s UEFA Euro football tournament will take place 14th June to 14 July 2024 in Germany. We know that incidents of domestic abuse rise during major football tournaments. Data in 2022 showed that reported incidents of domestic abuse increased by:

  • 26% when England played
  • 38% if England lost a game
  • 11% the next day, win or lose

We also know that gambling increases during tournaments, and the links between gambling and both immediate and ongoing domestic abuse are significant.

Men and boys tend to gather during the tournament, which offers an opportunity to target them with a communications campaign about abuse, encouraging men to seek help where needed and to also call out male friends, colleagues, and family members.

We’re asking local businesses, bars, pubs, and other nightlife settings to use beermats that raise awareness of abuse. The beermats will encourage people to change their behaviour, and call out abuse when they see it. Support information for victim-survivors is also available.

To order the campaign beermats and posters, please contact us using the contact details on this page.

Our VAWG prevention campaign

Young people in Haringey are being encouraged to help prevent violence against women and girls. The 3 video campaign seeks to #ReframeTheBlame by showing:

  • young women that they are not at fault for any abuse targeting them
  • young boys how certain behaviours can be potentially problematic
  • professionals the importance of acting swiftly and decisively in the face of warning signs

The videos have been a fantastic example of co-production, being a collaborative effort between our VAWG prevention team and:

Young people from CONEL, Solace’s Summer School of Power and LUOS helped to design the dialogue, style and delivery of each short film, as well as appearing in the videos themselves.

The series of short films are shared with schools and colleges throughout Haringey and support our 10 year VAWG Strategy (2016 to 2026)
