 Preferred Options Consultation

We consulted on a "preferred options" draft Site Allocations DPD (PDF, 9MB) from Monday 9 February to Friday 27 March

The sites were selected from previously published planning strategies, responses to consultations, analysing updated data, and meetings with other public sector bodies. By being included in this document, it did not mean that development would definitely happen – it simply meant the council believed that new buildings could be built on those pieces of land to meet the long-term needs of the borough. Any proposals would be subject to the normal planning process and public consultation.

Important parts of the strategy included:

  • Supporting Haringey’s high streets by designating Finsbury Park and Tottenham Hale as ‘district centres’ and making better use of land that fronts onto the high street
  • Setting out sites that are part of our estates renewal strategy to bring long-term improvements to council homes where residents are suffering from poor, overcrowded conditions

  • Supporting the regeneration of Alexandra Palace and exploring how open space at Highgate School could be made more accessible to the local community

  • A range of locations in Wood Green where new developments would support our long-term regeneration plans and a thriving town centre

  • The opportunity for a recognised Harringay Warehouse District that supports creative industries while tackling rogue landlords offering dangerous and unauthorised living spaces for rent

Supporting Information

An Interim Sustainability Appraisal for the Site Allocations DPD (PDF, 1MB) has been prepared alongside the Plan. The findings of this and the other three documents' Sustainability Appraisals are summarised in the summary of four Interim Sustainability Appraisals (PDF, 418KB)The council has undertaken research to inform these policy documents, which form what is called the evidence base. See the Evidence Base page to view these reports.
